Johnny English Strikes Again

From on-set and post graphics to character animation and a CG VR sequence, Territory Studio worked with production and editing teams to craft a high-tech world of comedy and mayhem for this Rowan Atkinson spy spoof.

Collaborating with Production Designer Simon Bowles, Territory developed graphic languages and screen graphics across all sets — MI6, government agencies, control rooms, and villain Volta's HQ — giving each a look appropriate to the organisation while adding the high-tech feel of a spy thriller. For Volta, Territory pushed a stylised, super-advanced technology aesthetic consistent with his use of AI.

A highlight was a standalone CG VR sequence in which Johnny English takes virtual into reality. Working from a loose storyboard and film plates, Territory created virtual environments and characters, delivering 15 shots and over 7,000 frames. The team used photogrammetry of each other's heads to create unique CG characters, and rebuilt Volta's location house interior using LiDAR scans. The first-person HUD overlay used subtle directional markers and target indicators.

Territory also created Xandar — an AI avatar for Volta, brought to life through a dynamic interplay of nodes and lines suggesting facial expressions, animated to sync with speech audio.
