Nightflyers

Territory Studio was embedded on set in Limerick to create over 1,200 motion graphic assets supporting all 10 episodes of this ambitious sci-fi series — a joint SYFY and Netflix production based on George R.R. Martin's novella, set in 2093 aboard a vast colonising ship.

Coming on board in pre-production, Territory worked with pilot director Mike Cahill to create concepts and a visual language for the spacecraft. The project spanned a broad range of sets including bridge, medlabs, cabins, mess hall, cargo bays, and a hydroponics lab. Working closely with each episode director, the art department and set decoration, Territory ensured all graphic assets supported story, world, action and performance.

Territory designed the ship's technology interfaces to perform many different tasks — from command centre priorities and social video calls to research and medical examinations. A modular approach to the fictional operating system ensured visual consistency across the whole ship, with each director able to use screens as textural background or trigger specific story beats at the press of a hotkey.

The design evolved from an initial minimalist brief (dark purple base with bold graphic elements and 3D glass/porcelain objects) toward more complex and structured designs as the scripts demanded greater narrative support.
