Territory Studio created on-set screen graphics for the Wachowskis' visual sci-fi extravaganza, working with the art team and production designer Hugh Bateup to craft animated screen graphics for spacecraft navigation systems.
The team explored a unique visual approach to bringing gravitational forces to life on screen — using isometric lines (normally used to describe weather fronts) to represent gravity and other invisible forces. They went on to create content around warped time, wormhole travel, activating/deactivating force fields, and planetary systems.
"I personally feel that our visual interpretation of gravitational events holds up as a piece of data design but also as an iconic visual element for the film. Our hope and intent was to provide the directors with a graphic language that both functioned as a screen graphic and as a representation of how people/aliens understand the universe around them." — Territory Studio
