Territory Studio created screen graphics for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, working directly with director Christopher McQuarrie on a tight, fast-moving production schedule. The studio's principal task was devising the look and feel of The Entity — a rogue AI antagonist representing calculated evil. Designs explored an anamorphic eye-like form, evolving from initial spline and string structures, parallax layers, and distortion effects into a vast data representation. Particle systems, code excerpts, and twitching eye animations coalesced into an ominous pulsing iris, used prominently in the film's opening titles.
For the Venice canal escape sequence, Territory designed Luther's satellite interface as aerial mapping with displacement maps, 3D parallax, and colour inversion — the UI reflecting the hijacked, corrupted state of the technology. Benji's navigation interface was crafted to guide Ethan to the cliff edge for the Orient Express pursuit, with hand-tracked UI panels synced precisely to Simon Pegg's on-set performance and the topography of the train route.
At the Midnight Gala in Venice, wall projections transform to reveal The Entity in masquerade — Territory's screen graphics used as a dramatic narrative reveal. The studio also designed the Face Swap machine sequence, creating UI that believably swaps Ethan Hunt's face for the mission briefing.
